INFT2031 - Network & System Administration
Assignment 1
Group Formation
This is a group assignment.
You need to complete Assignment 1 in groups of 2 members (you and a group member). You have been assigned to the same group as Design Task 1 by default. If you wish to change groups, please do so before March 12th 5pm on Canvas.
Collaborate with your member to complete the task. Note that a single submission for the group is required. You will also need to peer-review you and your group member on your contributions to the task. Submit peer review quiz.
Scenario:
Warabrook Primary is a small primary school which caters for primary students in Warabrook, NSW. We are currently upgrading our network and require you to design a new network with the following specifications.
Warabrook Primary has:
• Principal’s Room: The principal’s room contains a desktop computer, printer/scanner attached to it.
• Teacher’s Room: The teachers’ room will contain 4 desktop computers and a printer/scanner connected it. The computers will be used by teachers for research and teaching planning activities.
• 2 computer labs: Each lab consists of 20 Windows 11 computers and a networked printer for student use.
• Administration office: The administration area consists of 3 cubicles and a Principal’s Office. Each cubicle has a computer that is running either Windows 11. The staff area also has a network printer for staff use.
• Classroom Block: Classroom block consists of 5 classrooms. Each classroom needs to have 7 wired data points for teacher and student computers.
• Wireless Access: Wireless Access is provided to the hall area , classroom, computer labs, teacher’s room and administration office of the school.
The school has a server room to house all servers and related IT equipment. All computers on the school network needs to be able to access the Internet. The school has leased a block of public IPv4 addresses (i.e. 202.123.205.228/27) from Telstra NBN which will be used to provide Internet access.
The following is a diagram of the layout of the school. It indicates the location of the different teaching and administration areas.
Your group is asked to design a logical network diagram with all needed resources for Warabrook Primary. Justify the selection of resources and also, propose an approximate budget for the network’s hardware resources (excluding any devices, cabling, installation and configuration costs). Also design an IPv4 addressing scheme for the network with all relevant information. Ensure that staff (principal’s office, Admin. Office and Teacher’s Room) and students’ devices (Computer Lab 1, Computer Lab 2 and Classroom block) are connected to a separate subnet in the wired network. Also, wireless devices should be connected to a separate subnet. Note that a network administrator should be able to take your design and configure it without the need for any further clarification.
In summary, the project will require you to provide:
1. A clearly labelled network diagram that addresses all of the requirements of the school’s network. Use a legend to specify any notation you use in your network diagram.
2. A clear justification of the decisions that you have made and of the selection of resources.
3. An IPv4 addressing scheme for the network with all relevant details.
4. An estimated budget for the hardware resources for the project (you do not need to budget for computers, cabling, installation and configuration costs).
Submission: Your group needs to submit a softcopy via Canvas and fill in a Self and Peer Review form. by each individual group member.
Due date: May 10th, 11:59pm AEST
Grade: 10%
